A Queenstown Wedding?  Yes please!

On an earlier visit to Queenstown, Tracey and Eddie decided that when the time came, Queenstown is where they wanted to tie the knot. They fell in love with the vibe and the beauty of the city.  Just WOW!  You don’t need to twist my arm to shoot a Queenstown wedding!  In fact, this was my first time in Queenstown and is one of the most spectacular wedding locations we have ever filmed at!  We still can’t quite believe how blessed we are to have couples who love our films enough to invite us to join them at such amazing places!  Even though it was summer, which meant The Remarkables aren’t looking so white and snowy, they were still undeniably majestic!

Ceremony overlooking Lake Wakatipu

Tracey, Eddie and their respective bridal parties got themselves ready at Peppers Beacon Hotel, and chose to have their ceremony overlooking the gorgeous Lake Wakatipu at Rydges Hotel next door.  They had a big balcony with an amazing view and more than enough room for their 200 strong guest list.

Creative shoot at Frankton Beach + The Remarkables

Due to the weather, it was a possibility that the shoot up in the mountains might not go ahead, so we went to Frankton Beach which was close to the heliport, just in case.

It was awesome to work alongside the photographer, Anna of Alpine Image Co and be able to lean on her local knowledge.  Gray and I did our little video creative shoot at Frankton Beach while Anna was on and off the phone with her friends at Heliworks. The moment there was a clear window for flying, she had the excited and grateful couple ready to go in a heartbeat!

Reception in the sky

While Gray was with the Newlyweds and the photographer doing the rest of the creative shoot, it was my job to take all our gear up to the reception venue.  I don’t know what I was thinking, but it’s not easy to pile a bunch of heavy tripod and camera bags into a moving gondola.  Then as I was sitting alone with all the camera bags in the swinging gondola, I realised then that I was just a little bit scared of heights, ugh.  If I wasn’t so petrified, I might have enjoyed the ride up!  Then it dawned on me that I was going to have to get myself and everything out of the moving gondola before it swung its way back down the hill!  Thankfully, there were some helpful strangers at the top to give me a hand.

But Skyline Queenstown’s panoramic views over Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu were worth it, and such a breathtaking backdrop for the Eddie and Tracey’s reception.  When the Bride and Groom made their entrance, the evening was jam packed with speeches, prayers, songs, dance performances, Siva Samoa, even a conga line.  Phew!

It was a stunning evening, and as we finished up the night, the rain clouds had cleared and the stars were out.  So, we set up a little timelapse while we packed our gear.  A beautiful end to an amazing Queenstown Wedding Day!
